MotoAmerica: Aprilia RS 660 dominates Twins category with Gus Rodio at Daytona

Aprilia RS 660 won a historic one-two at the legendary Daytona International Speedway, scene of the opening round of the prestigious U.S. MotoAmerica Championship. Team Rodio Racing powered by Robem Engineering rider Gus Rodio dominated both races in the hotly contested Twins category, reserved for series-derived twin-cylinder machines, held Friday, March 8, and Saturday, March 9, at the legendary Florida track.

Vice-champion last year in his Twins Cup debut, Gus Rodio thus started the 2024 season in the best possible way: starting from pole position, the 19-year-old rider from Hammonton, New Jersey, was unrivaled in Race 1, crossing the finish line with a margin of over 11" over Dominic Doyle (Yamaha), second in a sprint over Avery Dreher, riding the Aprilia RS 660 of the TopPro Racing team.

Rodio then repeated himself in Race 2, taking the lead on the second lap and quickly stretching his rivals to a solo finish. Fallen on the first lap Avery Dreher, behind Rodio was the other RS 660 of the Rodio Racing team powered by Robem Engineering, entrusted to the 15-year-old rookie Alessandro Di Mario, third in the sprint just 44 thousandths from the second place, won by Rocco Landers (Suzuki).

TheAprilia RS 660 confirmed itself as the most competitive bike in the Twins Cup category: in Daytona, the sporty bike made in Noale took four podium finishes, and 11 top ten finishes out of 20. Of the 26 riders at the start, 12 raced on an RS 660.

The double victory allows Gus Rodio to leave Daytona with full points, with 50 points, 19 more than his first chaser in the standings, Rocco Landers. The next round of the Twins Cup is scheduled for April 19-21 at the Road Atlanta circuit in Braselton, Georgia.
