MotoGP is moving towards a downsizing, from a technical point of view of course. Dorna, organizers of the championship, and the manufacturers have been discussing for some time how to reduce the performance of the premier class prototypes. The options range from a reduction in engine size (there has been talk of going down to 850 cc), to the elimination of lowering devices, to the limitation of aerodynamics from 2027: all proposals on the negotiating table.
Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta spoke about the topic during the Royal Spanish Motorcycle Federation Gala. “We are discussing the technical and sporting regulations for 2027. In Doha there will be a meeting with all the manufacturers – were his words reported by Marca - They made us a proposal, we responded with another proposal a little more restricted than theirs and now they have to tell us what they think. We are quite close, most of them like what we have proposed."
So in just over a week, an important meeting will be held in Qatar to understand in which direction MotoGP will go. Ezpeleta, however, was clear on one point: there will be no upheavals for 3 years. So in the next two seasons we will race with the current rules.
“We expect that the engines will be different, but we have no intention of making changes for the next two years. The manufacturers will start working now for 2027; in 2025 and 2026 there will be the same rules as now. Very soon we will come to an agreement which will be announced this season" he concluded.
