SBK, Double win for Edoardo Colombi in BSB debut at Oulton Park

The Aprilia RS 660 Trophy reigning champion made his debut in British Superbike with two wins and pole position in the Pirelli National Sportbike class

SBK: Double win for Edoardo Colombi in BSB debut at Oulton Park

Edoardo Colombi made history in his first overall BSB race at Oulton Park. The defending champion of the Aprilia RS 660 Trophy made his debut in the British production-based championship by taking a pole position and a double win in the Pirelli National Sportbike class.

Colombi won Race 1 starting from pole position, a first heat made complicated by safety cars, crashes and a red flag. Edoardo handled the situation well in unprecedented conditions for him, tackling a new circuit and championship, crossing the finish line in first position. Also in Race 2, the Italian rider showed great maturity, following closely one of the strongest riders in the Championship and then overtaking him in the final phase.

Colombi, who during the Aprilia RS 660 Trophy had demonstrated his skills on the track, has now also managed to win the first round of the BSB riding the Aprilia RS 660 of the Italian Gradara Corse Team. This result highlights how the Aprilia Trophies are an excellent path of growth and training for younger riders.

"Seeing Edoardo in pole position and then victorious in his debut is a great satisfaction for Aprilia Racing and for the Trofeo 660 project," said Massimo Rivola, " Soon the fourth year of our Trofeo will begin, which is proving how much the RS 660 is a competitive bike, formative for younger riders and allowing excellent cornering speed. Last year Edoardo fought for the title until the last race, and this his BSB debut bodes well; I wish him well as he continues on this path. The Pirelli National Sportbike category, although still new, is proving to be very interesting and selective compared to the Supersport 300. We must continue to work to still see competitive grids in Italy and to see more and more Aprilia victories abroad, as has also already happened in America."

"I am very happy because, in addition to sealing the pole position and winning both races, I faced on equal terms much more experienced opponents than me on a completely new track and in a completely new context - added Edoardo Colombi - The Gradara Corse team did an exceptional job, the RS 660 turned out to be a perfect bike. I had fun surrounded by the fantastic British public, capable of appreciating our all-Italian pairing."
