In 2022, in these days, Toprak Razgatlioglu achieved a dominant double in Race 1 and Superpole Race at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimao. To which was added the success of the previous year, again in Race 1. On a historically favourable track, however, the Pata Yamaha Prometeon team rider was a good seven tenths of a second away from the record holder Alvaro Bautista at the end of the opening day of free practice, down in a disappointing ninth position in the combined standings.

“We are not strong in the last sector of the track. We don't enjoy the same acceleration as the Ducatis, even if we had never struggled so much in that section - admitted the number 54 - in general my sensations aren't great, we lack grip when cornering. Compared to last year we noticed that we are stronger in some corners, less so in others."

Signs were not very encouraging either also when it came to his pace: “During the race simulation we started to experience some problems after about ten laps - he continued - we hope to improve for tomorrow. If we can do that, I think we'll get back up front."

The Turk said however, that this Friday had nothing to do with that of the last round at Motorland Aragon: "That day was a real disaster, now at least I can ride the bike and I feel more comfortable . We just need to sort out the approach to some corners, we know what we're missing."

During the morning's FP1, the 2021 World Superbike Champion completed several laps together with Jonathan Rea, a scene that did not go unnoticed: “We agreed yesterday. First I followed him, then it was his turn and so on. In this way Johnny was able to closely observe his future motorbike (laughs, ed.)! What if I did the same in the afternoon with the BMWs of Redding and Gerloff? Of course!”, he concluded jokingly.
